Lisbon Invitational Summer Soccer Program (LISSP)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Lisbon Invitational Summer Soccer Program?

We started the program to help improve player’s skills and reduce the cost of participation of players over the summer.

Will Lisbon no longer participate in PYSA (Potsdam Youth Soccer Association)?

Lisbon will only field U17 boys and girls squads.

Why don’t the U12 and U14 kids get to travel and participate in PYSA games?

The costs for insurance is high. Team sizes (usually very large) don’t afford young players enough time to develop skills to be successful soccer players. Coaches in these younger age group teams work hard to get every player time on the field and this makes it hard for our teams to compete against towns that have smaller teams and more competitive players.  Finally, the burden of having kids on different teams means that parents are spending lots of time trying to get kids to games.   Coaches also have a lot of uncertainty about what teams they can field from game to game.

I don’t understand what the older kids (player coaches) have to do with LISSP.

The idea is that we are trying to provide mentors (or player coaches) that serve as positive roll models for younger players.

Why do player coaches need to meet in June?

This is the only time we could find to have a series of sessions that outline what we will be doing with the U12 and U14 groups.

Our summer is really busy with family and vacations.  How is this any better than participating in PYSA?

LISSP was designed with flexibility in mind.  We want players to feel comfortable if they miss sessions.  At the same time we want to provide a program that is FUN and that makes them WANT to come to our July sessions.

If there is too much flexibility how will there be enough players to get kids game experiences?

We will always be providing ”short-sided” games (even one-on-one) when we have July sessions. We plan to have an August Camp  that will be a week long camp that will allow us to have larger teams and hopefully some games with full squads.

Who can participate?

As with PYSA we can draw in players from neighboring towns that do not have a PYSA team or some other soccer program.  The goal is to reach out to other communities and keep the program about soccer and not necessarily about the town of Lisbon.
